If you’ve been around someone under the age of 18 in the past year, chances are you’ve heard a lot about Vines, even though Vine got taken down in January 2017. Last week, while I was at dinner, the ten 15-year-olds at the table next to me had a rousing conversation about all of their favorite Vines, though they couldn’t reach a consensus.
Shealagh, my 16-year-old sister, is a Vine enthusiast and a self-proclaimed Vine expert. Her love of Vine has spread throughout my family like wildfire. Over winter break, she had our whole family watch her favorite compilations for hours on end. Now, she has my entire family quoting Vines, and is working on her own Vine compilation.
If you’re looking to catch up with youth culture and you need to catch up before Vine 2, or maybe you just need a break from the Tide pod memes currently rampaging the Internet, here are five of Shealagh’s favorite Vine compilations:
- “Vines that just butter my eggroll”
- “Vines that can cure depression”
- “Vines that keep me from ending it all”
- “Vines I reference daily”
- “Vines for when you’re lonely and forget who you are”
If you get to the end of Shealagh’s recommendations and you still need some more Vines, her number one piece of advice is not to watch the ones with green borders, since the Vine corporation makes the worst Vine compilations. Anything else, well, you’ll just have to watch and find out if it’s funny or not.
