We’re in that time of year when the weather is wonky, the work is fierce, and everyone is still trying to figure out which friends to go to parties with. Here’s a playlist to help you through all the BU fall semester feels.

For a fresh start…

“I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor

This is the original, and it’s so good. It’s an inspirational song for kicking out the negativity and cleaning out your emotional garbage to get a fresh start to the year.

“It Don’t Hurt Like It Used To” by Billy Currington

This is my go-to song. It always reminds me that no matter where you’re at right now, sooner or later, it won’t hurt like it used to. Also fabulous if you’re going through a summer fling break up and need to be reminded that you’ll be happier soon.

“Question” by Ben Murray Smith

Murray Smith incorporates “Alice in Wonderland” quotes in this song and it’s just magical. This song reminds me that we’re all mad here and no matter what, we have our lovely BU community. So get out there and meet new humans!

To jam out to at a party…

“Mi Gente” by J. Balvin and Willy William

Nothing gets me hyped faster than this song. It’s just so catchy. If this doesn’t get you up and wanting to dance, I don’t know what will. And no, “Despacito” is not better.

“Guap” by Yaeji

This just makes me want to wear all black from head to toe and go out with my friends. It really just makes me feel badass.

“Bodak Yellow” by Cardi B

Yes, it belongs on the list. It gets everyone hype and everyone knows every word and it’s fun to hear everyone singing along to it.

“Slippery feat. Gucci Mane” by Migos

This one has a super cool beat. I’ve always been a Migos fan and this song just made me a bigger fan. It’s oddly addicting, but maybe that’s because the beat changes from fast to slow and back and it’s amazing? Regardless, you can party to this.

For studying…

Anything classical. Literally anything. And Spotify has a TON of options for study playlists.

For a chill and relaxing night…

“Thin Floors and Tall Ceilings” by ODESZA

This song is kind of haunting. It has such an interesting vibe that it makes the chill and relaxing list because you can’t help but just exist to this song.

“Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver

I love country music and this one just makes me smile. It’s super sweet and relaxing. Denver’s voice is soothing and as in most country songs, there are only appropriate lyrics so you can listen to it full blast and your professors, roommates, neighbors, whoever, won’t shoot you dirty looks.

“Do I Make You Wanna” by Billy Currington

ANOTHER SOOTHING AND WHOLESOME BEAT. I have a serious addiction to this song. It makes me want to find someone and do all the things in the song. Great song to just relax to and think about all the wonderful things you’ll experience in your life.

“Tennessee Whiskey” by George Jones

Did I say I love country? Sorry, but this song is built for soothing the soul. It puts a smile on my face without fail and if you wander around Boston to this, I guarantee it will make your day. It’s just too endearing to not touch your heart.
